Grape Seed Oil

Question: Is grape seed oil a good oil like olive oil and canola oil?

Answer: Grape seed oil has a light taste and very high smoking point, which makes it great for stir-frying. However, it has a very different fatty acid profile than either olive oil or canola oil, both of which contain large amounts of monounsaturated fats. In addition, canola contains some omega-3's. Conversely, grape seed oil is 2/3 linoleic acid, an Omega-6 fatty acid that while considered essential (and is abundant in the typical American diet), is one of the fatty acids we recommend our patients limit. This is due to the mounting evidence that it may imbalance the internal terrain by increasing inflammation, and thus fuel the growth of cancer cells.
