Fish oil formulations

In choosing a fish oil, you should consider obtaining an enteric-coated product so that it does not upset your stomach. High quality fish oil products should be tested for purity (PCBs, mercury, dioxins, heavy metals and furans) and for oxidation levels, and standardized for levels of EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid).

If you are taking an anticoagulant or other medication with blood-thinning properties (and this could include aspirin and some other anti-inflammatory drugs), or if you have diabetes, blood coagulation disorders, fish/shellfish/iodine allergies or are pregnant, be sure to talk to your doctor before you begin taking fish oils to determine an appropriate dosage!
